4th International Symposium of Young Researchers on Medicinal Plants and Natural Product Research was held with the participation of the students of the EUGLOH Alliance

On May 22-24, 2023, 15 young researchers presented their scientific results at the conference organized by the Insitute of Pharmacognosy. Students from members of the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) took part in the symposium for the first time.

It was possible to participate in the scientific program of the event both in-person and virtual. Students also received credit points for active participation. At the opening, Dr. Attila Hunyadi, head of the Institute of Pharmacognosy, emphasized that the symposium is not only an excellent opportunity for young researchers to practice presentation and discussion, but also a great opportunity for international collaborations and projects to be established, and professional and friendly relations to develop. The opening lecture was given by Professor Maria M. M. Santos, head of the Medicinal Organic Chemistry research group at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. This was followed by short lectures of young researchers. After the lunch, the students of the EUGLOH Student Board in Szeged invited the participants to a playful city tour, where they explored well-known sights of Szeged.

On Tuesday, the symposium began with the scientific program, which was only interrupted by a short coffee break. The participants were very interested in the various fields of natural product research – phytochemistry, phytoanalytics, molecular biology, phytopharmacology, phytotherapy. Each presentation was followed by a long discussion. In the afternoon, the students visited the Klebelsberg University Library and learned about its special book collections. The day ended with a dinner in a great atmosphere. The international group had the opportunity to talk informally, eat well and laugh a lot. On the last day of the event, the participants visited the Faculty of Pharmacy.
