The University of Szeged is again performing well in the QS British rankings by subject and field. Based on the results published on March 12, 2025, SZTE ranked first in Hungary in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
The University of Szeged achieved excellent results in several scientific and professional fields in the QS World University RankingsbySubject in its latest edition. One of the world's most respected higher education rating companies examined more than 5,200 institutions in its survey this year, of which nearly 1,750 were ranked in 5 broad subject categories and 55 narrower fields. The global rankings of the University of Szeged all represent podium positions in Hungarian terms.
SZTE ranked first in Hungary in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences , and it also maintains its position in the international field at 251-300. Only three Hungarian universities are on the list.
In the life and medical sciences category, SZTE still claims the 401-450th place. In this broader category – in addition to pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences – the university also achieved good positions in other subject lists. It ranked 351-400th globally in the medical sciences ranking, 351-400th in the agriculture and forestry category, and 451-500th in the biological sciences field in the international field.
The University of Szeged's diverse professional excellence and recognition are proven by its stable performance in the QS lists in the disciplines of arts and humanities and natural sciences: it ranks 451-500 in both. Within the natural sciences, chemistry also achieved a good position in the subject ranking (501-550), and it has also entered a new ranking here this year: it ranks 501-600 in the international ranking in the mathematics list.
In addition to the above, SZTE is also successful within the broader field of excellence in engineering and technical sciences: it continues to maintain its position in the 601-650th place in the list of computer sciences and informatics .
When compiling the QS excellence lists, they took into account – with different weights for each field – the assessments of higher education institutions by the academic sphere and employers, two indicators characterizing the citation of scientific works: the number of citations per publication and the Hirsch index, as well as the international diversity of research collaborations.
